If you need your hand held and to have every instruction slowly spelled out to you in your native language, then the Submission Master DVDs by Yoshiaki Fujiwara are probably not for you.
However, if you are interested in understanding a little bit more about where the Japanese MMA scene grew out of then check out this DVD. If you want to know more about the style that saw its greatest exponents fighting and beating some of the toughest men on the planet (Even Maeda, the guy who taught the Gracie family, once lost a fight . . . to a Catch Wrestler) then perhaps you should check out this DVD.
If you want to have a few techniques in your back pocket your friends at the Dojo/Club haven’t seen before then you just might find the edge you’re looking for in Fujiwara’s Submission Master DVD set.
And best of all, if you want to see some of the greatest mullets I have ever personally witnessed then you have absolutely got to check out these DVDs.

High Percentage Side Control Attacks is a no-gi instructional that examines a series of side control techniques, one series by each featured instructor, which are linked together and designed to give the student a side control “game”.
The techniques are solid, the transitions are awesome, and the overall result will give the beginner to intermediate student a solid foundation to develop their side-control game while providing the more advanced practitioner a few nuggets to add to their own arsenal.

You’ll be several more reviews of Stephan Kesting’s products coming to MaximumG.com very soon. Too many grappling products over promise and under deliver. With Kesting’s products you get what you pay for.
This review will be relatively short because the content of this DVD is exactly what the title promises . . . grappling drills.

The Closed Guard Attacks DVD features Luiz Palhares, a 6th degree black belt under Rickson
Gracie. Mr. Palhares started training in 1976 with Rolls Gracie and has been a student of
Rickson's since 1982. He has an incredible reputation as an instructor and his depth of
knowledge seems formidable.
This is my first DVD from PracticalGrapler.com and, while
I'm not exactly overjoyed by the quality of the DVD, I am incredibly impressed by the
technique selection and the level of detail Mr. Palahares goes into. I really don't care if
you're a top game guy or a bottom game guy, this DVD is a fantastic resource.

BJJ Champ, MMA/NHB champ, IFL coach, superstar Jiu-Jitsu trainer Renzo Gracie is both
part of the Gracie lineage and the author of his own martial arts legacy. His co-author,
John Danaher holds a PHD from Colombia University and has been Renzo's training partner
for years. Their book Mastering Jiu-Jitsu is an interesting entry into the Jiu-Jitsu
instructional world.

Stephan Kesting's The Butterfly and X Guard Instructional features one of the most in-depth examinations, if not THE most in-depth examination, of the butterfly guard including the sweeps, the grips, the sweeps that work with each of the grips, and on and on. This DVD features 80 techniques and over 2 hours of instruction covering Sweeps, Strategies, Submissions, Counters, Setups, Combinations, Positioning, Drills, and even a little bit of Competition Footage.

Guerilla Jiu-Jitsu is the only book, that I have seen, on the market that attempts to hybridize Jiu-Jitsu and Judo. While Jiu-Jitsu and Judo have identical family trees they have grown apart partially due to the influence that competition rules have had on the priorities of the practicioners and the techniques practiced. Camarillo notes that this divergent evolution was not necessarily a good thing and that each sport has a great deal to offer the other.

With a Masters in Exercise Physiology, a CSCS, and a USA Weightlifting club coach certification, it is fair to say that Brian Jones knows what he's talking about. Take his considerable academic credentials and pile on 20 years of martial arts experience along with the fact that he trains BJJ and is an active MMA fighter and you have a formula for fitness expertise that has some direct applicability to combat sports. The guy is even pursuing a PH.D. in Exercise Physiology . . . what more could you ask for?
Working with a sandbag is a great experience. It taxes your grip like very few things can and it allows you to develop your strength along functional planes . . . in other words, you get strong in ways that will directly benefit your performance in the combat sports you love.

Fabio Gurgel is a four time Jiu-Jitsu World Champion who began his training at the age of 13 with Romero "Jacare" Cavalcanti. He was awarded his black belt at the age of 19 and currently holds a 4th degree black belt. In the words of his mentor (Jacare) "He has done it all."
This instructional series is a full four volumes on two DVDs that cover some of Fabios favorite sweeps, passes, and submissions.

Erik Paulson is an American MMA pioneer and one of the best trainers on the planet. He is a student of Yori Nakamura (1989), Dan Inosanto (1988), Benny Urquidez(1988), and Rorion Gracie(1988). He was the first American to go to Japan and come home with a world title from a Japanese MMA organization (Shooto).
The Quick Kills instructional begins with a short highlight of action from the tape. Erik then introduces himself and his assistant Jeremy Bennet before going on to define Quick Kills as "the most efficient way to finish a fight from striking to grappling to finishing."
