I don’t know about you, but I’m not exactly swimming in a sea of money. It is true that I spend waaay too much of my income on grappling instructionals and books, but I guarantee that if all of the instructional producers out there put together products like PracticalGrappler.com does then my library would be considerably larger.

PracticalGrappler.com does two things very, very well: #1 they produce information packed DVDs, and #2 they don’t put a price on their product that re requires me to take out a second mortgage in order to purchase it.

Do you give up a few things when you make a purchase from PracticalGrappler.com? That depends, why are you buying the DVD in the first place? If you want state of the art production then go throw your shekels somewhere else. The production in a PracticalGrappler.com instructional is adequate. The lighting, sound, repetition, pacing, etc are all solid. You won’t find any fancy menus or special effects.

With PracticalGrappler.com products you get great information at a very fair price.

Now that I’ve gone a little overboard talking about PracticalGrappler.com, lets get down to reviewing High Percentage Side Control Attacks.

Everybody, or at least almost everybody, looks at the mount as the most dominant position . . . and it can be; however, side control has many, many more options for attacks and transitions.

Controlling your opponent is one of the cornerstones of Jiu-Jitsu and somebody with a good side control game will be able to progress their position and initiate more attacks from a position that will not force them to take as many risks as many other positions, like mount.

High Percentage Side Control Attacks is a no-gi instructional that examines a series of side control techniques, one series by each featured instructor, which are linked together and designed to give the student a side control “game”. The techniques are solid, the transitions are awesome, and the overall result will give the beginner to intermediate student a solid foundation to develop their side-control game while providing the more advanced practitioner a few nuggets to add to their own arsenal.

Both Amal Easton and Helio Soneca are world class Jiu-Jitsu competitors. Soneca achieved World, Brazilian National, and Pan American championships while Amal has his own collection of championships that include the Brazilian Nationals and several Pan American championships, including a black belt absolute gold medal and what may have been the only gold for Team USA during the inaugural Brazil VS USA Challenge at the Pan Americans back in 2003. Both of these guys are incredible competitors and this DVD shows that they are also great instructors.

Pay attention to the details and you’ll get so much out of this DVD. The 4 star rating seems almost unfairly low but that’s the way the formula crumbles.
